After Zoe's meeting with the Headmaster in Godric's Hollow, she had returned to The Three Broomsticks, where she often stayed during end-of-term holidays.
She couldn't face visiting Andromeda, not after what she had found out.
Her head was still spinning from all the things she had been told.
How she was directly related to the Blacks, not just a distant cousin of some sort. How could no-one have told her of her true identity?
She looked out of the dark window, but saw only her reflection staring back at her, pale, confused and tear stained.
She sat down on the bed, and pulled out a of her pocket a silver chain, on which a small locket hung.
She never wore the locket, but she always carried it with her.
It was her mothers locket. It had been given to Zoe after her mothers' death.
She ran her hand over the cold silver, wishing that the people inside it would appear next to her and comfort her, but now she was just fantasizing.
She opened the locket and looked at the images of her mother and father, and her as a baby, all waving up at her, so happy, with no worries.
"They didn't know they were about to be killed," Zoe whispered, and she let the locket slip from her hands and land on the hard wooden floor.
She stood up and walked over to the window, splattered with raindrops, falling so carelessly from the black sky.
Zoe watched the rain, falling like the tears on her face.
Overall, Zoe had led a happy life, despite the fact that most of the decent people in her family were dead.
Her cousin, Andromeda, had taken her in after she was orphaned, and she had grown up with her orphaned cousin, Teddy.
They were like brother and sister.
Zoe had gone to school, like every normal Muggle, and had always been one of the smarter children.
When she was eight, she finally learned of her powers, and three years later, started learning to use them.
She had never given a real thought about the rest of her family, just quick recallations of her family tree.
The rain fell heavier, and Zoe listened to the pattering it was making on the glass.
Little droplets of water leaked through the window frame and onto the window ledge.
Zoe wiped them off with her hand.
She watched back over to the bed and picked up the locket.
She turned it over in her hand unconsciously.
The silver reflected off the light of the candles and words appeared on her hand.
She stopped playing with the locket and looked closer. There was an inscription on the back.
She squinted and read it.
Zoe thought, this was a present to my mother from my grandmother. She held it close.
A strong window hit the window and the candles went out.
Zoe sat there in the peacefulness, enjoying the time to think.
Her life was so hectic, these times rarely ever came.
She closed her eyes and the memories of all the good times of her childhood flooded around her.

My dearest Elthara,
May this hold the memories of you family, as it did mine. I give you this as a final gift, for soon I will leave this world and enter the unknown lands of Heaven.
I will never forget you,
Alura
