James looked utterly bewildered at the new girl and leaned in towards Lucinda and asked her what Keira had just said, in whispered tones. She leaned toward him too. “No idea, but I think she just gave you an undeserved thank you,” she muttered. It was hard to understand this new girl sometimes, for her thick accent and frequent use of French seemed to confuse most. Lucinda shrugged, knowing that it would pass eventually and she would get accustomed to it.
Keira said that she tended to trail off in French when she got excited. A note to put down for future reference - learn French.
He laughed as he scribbled down the paragraphs Lucinda told him too. He wished to know when his pranks ever backfired on him, and she was happy to answer that question for him. “Oh well, I don’t know. How about last summer, with the brooms? Your father and I were totally on to you and we nailed you before you even realized what happened.” She smiled at her victory in that argument and turned to Keira. “He just hates it whenever someone gets him back - especially me. As for innocence -” she shrugged. “Think what you will. Just know that he is far worst that he appears - physical and not.”
She glanced down at the parchment which James was scribbling aimlessly on. She realized that he was suddenly scribbling all over her homework. “James! Stop!” she flung her arms to grab the papers before any further damage. She thrust his papers aside and examined her own. Right over her the margins. At least it wasn’t over the actual writing. “Way to go,” she chastised. Pulling out her wand, she muttered a spell and traced her wand over the access words, erasing them altogether. Sighing in relief, she looked back at James. “You nearly gave me a heart attack.”

"Oh really now but did you remember what happen after the brooms?" James asked her with a smile. "It didn't backfired now did it?" he asked her. "As I recall when you tried to read a book later and it sprayed water all over you didn't it?" he asked with a triumpth smile. "And as for my father I put a rubber like spell on his fork." he said with a smile on his face. "And I have to admit that prank wasn't worth doing but it was all I could think of at the time." he said with a smile.
"Sorry not my fault. You put the parchment if front of me remember!" he said with a small smile. He already knew that he had his homework done but she didn't know that and she wasn't gonna let her know that either. He frowned for a minute and then got a new parchment and started writing the paragraphs again.

James reminded her that the broomstick prank didn’t exactly backfire, but Lucinda just shook her head. “Puh-lease, James. We got you that day and you know it. You were mad and squirted me with water. Such a sore loser.” She skipped away to her empty armchair and plopped herself upon its comfy cushions. She put her paper in her bag as he explained that it was her fault he had written all over it in the first place. She rolled her eyes and laid down horizontally on the armchair.
“Watch where you’re writing,” she suggested with a smile in her voice. She tried to balance her wand on the tip of her finger aimlessly. He seemed to be at his homework a bit more than usual, which was no common. Lucinda shrugged it away. A prank, no doubt, was stirring in his mind. “You liking Hogwarts so far?” she asked Keira, not really looking at her but concentrating on balancing her wand.

James looked at her. "Who said I didn't want to see you two watch me? That was part of my plan and that book with water was a prank that I created. So no I did not get pranked by you or my father with broomsticks yet. But my fathers prank on the first day was pretty funny. He woke me up at midnight saying I missed the Hogwarts Express when in fact I did not. All I know I was ready to go and dresed and ate breakfast by two in the morning and he started laughing at me because it was really two in the morning and not twelve in the afternoon." he said with a small smile.

Lucinda laughed and dropped her wand at that. "He what?! Haha! He was always good for a good prank too. At least his were occasional and funny." She reached down to retrieve her dropped wand. "Oddly enough, I can see that happening too. I'm sure you got him back?" She lifted an eyebrow at the back of his head.
Mr. Potter...he wasn't exactly the prankster type. Of course, he did like to play those occasional tricks on people, but Lucinda had always wondered where James had got his evil side from. Certainly not his grandfather? Harry didn't know his parents either, but he had told stories, which he told her and James when they were younger. Yup, she found the culprit. James Potter the first. She smiled to herself.

"Actually I didn't get him back for that yet." James said with a smile. "He did that this year. And I was about too before we had to go to actually catch the train." he said with a smile. "And if you are wondering where I got my pranking side just think of who my uncles are?" he asked her with a smile on his face. Yes he had gotten his pranking side from his Uncle George and Uncle Fred who is no longer with them. He never knew his Uncle Fred but according his Uncle and his parents Uncle Fred was one of the funniest guy they knew. And ever since hearing about him he loved pranking.

"Duh! Of course! George..." she said, slapping herself on the forehead. "I was thinking your grandfather. From the stories we've heard, he seems like a prankster. Now that you think about it, I pictured him more of a troublemaker than one who plays pranks. Uncle George, on the other hand..." she laughed. "We should go visit them in Hogsmeade sometime. Next time we go?"
She attempted to balance her wand again, but was just as unsuccessful as she had been before. Giving up, she decided to put designed using the tip of her wand. She drew stars, circles, squares, then hearts. They turned into smoke and glided away in the motionless air.

"Them?" James looked at her with a small smile. "I don't know if you know this but there is no Fred Weasley. He died in the huge battle in my parents seventh year. So now there is only George who's missing an ear from the flight they did before the huge battle even began." he said with a small mattter of fact tone. He never really liked History of Magic but when it concerned his family he did.

Lucinda clapped her hand over her mouth the moment she had mentioned Fred. She did remember that he was dead, it just slipped her mind. Kade had told her of his sacrifice for their freedom and the defeat of the Dark Lord, and she instantly regretted saying what she did.
"Yeah, I did," she said, slowly. "I'm sorry, James. It was by habit...that's how your mom always refers to them..." she trailed off. Even though James never knew Fred, she knew he always wanted to. He was like an idol to him, besides George. Lucinda looked up at James.

Keira had responded that she loves Hogwarts so far, but Lucinda was so enveloped in what James was saying, that she didn't seem to notice Keira's response. "My condolences, James. I did not hear about that tragedy." she said in a lamenting way. Keira sat next to James and opened her books. She decided she would start on some homework to keep James company for a while. She had some DADA and Charms work to do.

There was an awkward silence, broken only by the sudden movement of the Irish lass, who gave her condolences and went to sit at the same table as James. She pulled out her own materials for the Defense Against the Dark Arts homework, and Lucinda secretly prayed that Keira wasn't planning on having James help her. Two reasons for this was a) James couldn't do his own homework without assistance, and b) Lucinda gave him the wrong homework, for she knew he had already done it.
Lucinda looked apologically in Keira's direction. "That's good. You'll definitely love it here. It's a great escape from home, trust me." She winked, and all fell silent.
The awkward silence continued until Lucinda was suddenly struck by memory. She snapped her head up and leapt out of her armchair. "James! I almost forgot!" She run over and grabbed James by the hand. She towed him away to the fireplace where her bag was. Tugging him down to his knees with her, she let go of his hand and rummaged through her bag.
She pulled out this little orb, sent to her by her brother from Durmstrang. She had no idea what it did, but she assumed it was some pranking device. It was much lighter than any crystal ball and a bit smaller. It was all glass and transparent. She handed it to him.
"That's from Carlisle - he got it from some shop near Durmstrang," she stated, leaning back on her heels. "I dunno what it does, but he insisted that I give it to you. Knowing him, it's probably an explosive or something." She smiled, even though the thought could be considered frightening.
