Name: Matthew Ollerton (prefers Matty)
Age: 11
House: Ravenclaw
Blood: Muggle-Born
Personality:
Matthew has a quiet and shy personality; therefore he finds it fairly hard to make friends. He is quite sporty but, being quite shy, only at individual sports, like Tennis and athletics. Since he is a muggle-born he has obviously never tried sports like Quidditch, but then again, he probably wouldn’t have been interested in it anyway, because it is a team sport. Even though he’s not a friend-making machine, he does have a small number of friends, who he shows much respect for, and if the situation arose he would defend them with his life.
Another reason for why Matthew is quite unsociable is because he spends a lot of time in the library, nose deep into a fictional, fantasy story of dragons, elves and dwarves, but never in his wildest dreams did he expect these things to be close to the truth… until he received his Hogwarts admission letter of course.
As well as being interested in fictional books, he is also quite interested in informative books. Some of those who aren’t well acquainted to him would think he is an overly obsessive swot. However, this is not true. Yes, he does become intrigued by some information but he’s not a little know-it-all who likes to answer every question in class, for “precious” gold stars. No, he’s much too shy to do that. He just prefers to sit at the back of the classroom and get on with the work quickly and quietly.
Although he doesn’t show it in class, Matthew is in fact very clever. In tests he normally gets the highest mark of the class and he quite often gets 10/10 in homework. However, these are in muggle subjects, and Matthew doesn’t know any knowledge about the magical world. In fact, he’s quite worried that everyone else will know much more than him.
Family:
Father: Albert - Muggle - Deceased…?
Mother: Joanna – Muggle
Sister: Hannah – Shows signs of witchcraft
History:
Matthew lived a perfectly normal life for his first 5 years, his Mother and Father looked after him well, as any caring parents should do and nothing out of the unusual occurred. However, when he was 5 years old, Matthew started doing very out-of-the-ordinary things. He once fell down the stairs, only to appear perfectly safe and upright at the bottom. Later, he sent a plate of mouldy carrots, that he was being forced to eat, straight out of the window with a SMASH! His Father was intrigued by Matthews’s unusual powers and spent much time with him, trying to make him do more tricks. However, his Mother wasn’t as keen about his new powers. She wanted him to lead a normal life, and go to school and university and become a well paid accountant or lawyer.
As Matthew grew older, his parents argued more and more about him and his future life. They eventually came to an agreement that they would see what Matthew turned out like when he was older, and then decide. Heated arguments became rarer in the house. Life seemed to become fairly normal again. But that’s when it all went wrong.
Matthew and his Mother went shopping to the local town to buy things for the new baby. (His Mother had recently become pregnant.) They took all day buying little clothes, toys and prams. His Father hadn’t come because he was in bed with a bad case of flu. Much later that day, Matthew and his Mother came back to find his Father missing. There seemed to have been a fight in his bedroom; bed covers lay sprawled over the floor, the bed-side table had been turned on its side, and the glass window had been blown apart. Matthew’s Father had been kidnapped.
They got the police to search for him of course, but there was no sign of him for over two years. So the police had labelled his Father as dead. When this two years was up, Matthew had just turned 11 and Joanna had become the mother of a baby girl, who she called Hannah. Much to Joanna’s disappointment, Hannah, just like Matthew, showed signs of magic from an early age. But, with no one to argue with, she just learned to accept it.
Just one month after Hannah was born, a barn owl, in the middle of the day, pecked on the kitchen window, during breakfast. Matthew let it in and it placed a heavy brown-gold envelope in his hands and quickly flew off. He stood there in astonishment for a few seconds; an owl had just come in to his house, in the middle of the day, with a really big heavy letter, written to him. Looking behind him, he saw that his Mother had the same astonished expression that he had. Without any further ado, Matthew ripped open the envelope in excitement and anxiety and he read the letter out aloud, so his Mother could hear it. After he had finished his Mother had an even more astonished expression on her face, but Matthew grinned in excitement – he always new something had been missing from his life.
Matthew Ollerton had been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
